The Urgency

Physical Literacy as defined by NAPL is the ability, balance, confidence, desire, and explorative nature to be healthy and active for life. A growing body of evidence indicates, “Childhood obesity is a national epidemic. Nearly 1 in 3 children (ages 2-19) in the United States is overweight or obese, putting them at risk for serious health problems. As parents, caregivers, brothers and sisters, leaders in schools, communities and healthcare, we can work together to create a nation where the healthy choice is the easy choice.” Alliance for a Healthier Generation

At NAPLUSA we aim to create a cultural shift where kids are more active throughout the day.

Further evidence indicates that inactivity is also on the rise. “according to a study done by the Sports & Fitness Industry Association, that amid concerns of an overemphasis on sport specialization, more kids than ever are not playing sports at all. Inactivity among children approached 20% in 2014, continuing a six-year upward trend.”
